CFOA Football Officials Training Class - 2011
The Central Florida Officials Association would like to invite you to attend the 2011 Football Officials Training Class that will be held at Lake Highland Preparatory School in Orlando. The first class starts on Wednesday, June 1 and continues on every Monday and Wednesday all summer until August 10. The campus is practically located in downtown Orlando with an artificial turf field. The classrooms are nearby to the field when we have a scheduled class inside, or when the weather does not cooperate with the outside field agenda. Rain and lightning are not our friends. All new officials, transfer officials, and clock operators are required to attend. The class is free, with a basic accessory kit including flag and whistle, supplied by the CFOA at the class, and can be purchased within the first couple of weeks of the classes for outside field training. Information on the entire uniform and equipment will be discussed and demonstrated at the class. The state has prescribed a specific dress code for all officials so do not purchase the uniform or equipment before you attend the class.
Wear comfortable clothes suitable for a private school setting. Their summer school classes will be in session all summer. Be prepared for classroom work with writing instruments of your choice, and appropriate footwear for on-field activity. We are tentatively scheduling the lecture hall until classroom size is determined. You will find the campus is ideally suited for your training experience.
All classes will begin at 6:30 PM and last about 2 hours. Please do not arrive before 6:00 PM on the first night. We’ll have on-campus directions when you arrive, but we’ll need to integrate the parking with the Security Department so we don’t interrupt school activities or complicate parking for teachers, students, or parents. Please follow traffic direction arrows and signs.
Directions: The school is located on 901 Highland Ave, which is at the intersection of Highland Ave and Marks St. The school is east of I-4 and Orange Ave, west of 17-92 (Mills Ave), and one block north of Colonial Drive (SR 50). If you have any questions, please E-mail me at Lroland@aol.com or Mike Goodspeed at m.goodspeed@cfl.rr.com. We’ll be looking for you at LHP, 6:30 PM, Wednesday, June 1.

Uniform Information
UNIFORMS - 5/2/11
Last Night at our last board meeting before the annual meeting the board approved a uniform change for football. THIS IS SIGNIFICANT.
BEGINNING THIS YEAR WE WILL BE SWITCHING FROM WHITE KNICKERS TO BLACK LONG PANTS FOR EVERY GAME AT EVERY LEVEL.
FOR THIS YEAR TO TRANSITION AND FOR THIS ONE TIME ONLY THE CFOA WILL BUY THE PANTS AND SUPPLY THEM TO EVERYONE ELIGIBLE FOR FOOTBALL THIS COMING YEAR THAT OFFICIATED FOOTBALL LAST YEAR.
IF YOU ARE STARTING FOOTBALL THIS YEAR YOU HAVE TO BUY YOUR OWN PAIR. IF YOU WORKED WITH US LAST YEAR AS YOUR PRIMARY ASSOCIATION WE ARE PAYING FOR ONE PAIR OF THE NEW PANTS WHICH WE WILL SUPPLY TO YOU. IF YOU DIDN'T WORK FOOTBALL LAST YEAR YOU HAVE TO BUY YOUR OWN PAIR.
LIKE WITH BASKETBALL PANTS ,YOU ARE GOING TO HAVE TO HAVE AN ACCURATE WASTE SIZE SO WE CAN ORDER THE CORRECT SIZES.......ALSO THESE PANTS MUST BE HEMMED FOR LENGTH....SO YOU HAVE TO HAVE THE CORRECT SHOES (THE ONES YOU ARE GOING TO WEAR) TO MAKE SURE YOUR PANTS ARE THE CORRECT LENGTH
BE PREPARED FOR MORE ANNOUNCEMENTS ON THIS....DO NOTHING NOW..PLEASE WAIT FOR THE NEXT STEP TO BE ANNOUNCED.....DO NOT BUY YOUR OWN UNLESS YOU WANT AN EXTRA PAIR ....YOU WILL NOT BE REIMBURSED......
NO MORE WHITE KNICKERS....PLEASE GET READY FOR THE CHANGE.LOSE WEIGHT,GET TALLER,BUY NEW SHOES...WHATEVER.....THIS WILL BE FUN...
I THINK SOMETHING THIS NEW IS KIND OF EXCITING...HOPEFULLY YOU DO TOO.
DON'T DO ANYTHING NOW JUST IN CASE THERE ARE ANY LAST MINUTE CHANGES
THANKS EVERYONE WE HAVE HAD A GREAT YEAR....LET'S FINISH IT WITH A GREAT ANNUAL MEETING..........PLEASE PLAN TO BE THERE.....

Osceola County Weather info
Osceola County has a new weather / lightning detection system that is very impressive. We are now using a compan called Telvent DTN and have access to their online and mobile technology to alert us to many poor weather situations.
The system sets up a 30 mile advisory radius around each onsite and offsite location. When poor weather / lightning is detected the system will text each mobile phone that we have set up. For those of us with Blackberry's and IPhones - it will not only text us but show us the weather pattern coming in and show where the lightning is striking. The online version will show the exact mileage the mobile application will show inside the 30 or 8 mile radius.
We also have an 8 mile warning radius around each location. We will be stopping the game immediately when lightning is detected within the 8 mile radius. Our 30 minute clock will then start. Our smartphones will light up red and will show the clock counting down to the all clear. As soon as the 30 minutes is up (after the last strike) the color will go yellow or green to notify the 8 mile radius is all clear and play may resume. For those with older phones, a text message will come in and show the All Clear for return to play.
