OCPS On-Field Incident

Action Plan

  1. Coaches

·         If a brawl or other serious incident occurs on the field, the only coach to enter the field will be the Head Coach. The principal will also be on the field to help restore order.

·         All Assistant Coaches, as well as Administrators assigned to the sidelines, will turn their back to the playing field and keep all sideline players back.

  1. Players

·         In the event of a serious incident or brawl, all players on the field will immediately re-huddle on the opposite hash mark away from the altercation. Players will make no attempt to break up any type of fight.

·         All players on the sideline will immediately take one step back and go down on one knee. They will not make any attempt to enter the playing field.

  1. Athletic/School Administrators

·         The Athletic Director will enter the playing field to assist the Head Coach.

·         The Assistant Athletic Director or School Administrator assigned to the officials  will immediately report to them and escort them to safety if necessary, after their responsibilities are completed following the incident.

·         The Athletic Director will contact the press box and instruct the public address announcer to commence instructions for the fans specific to the incident on the field.

·         If necessary, assigned Athletic/School Administrators will escort home team into locker room and visiting team to furthest point of field or sideline.

·         Principals, Athletic Directors and Officials will meet following the conclusion of the incident to discuss if the contest should continue and under what conditions.

  1. Law Enforcement

·         Will keep all spectators off the field during the incident and will assist Athletic/School Administrators in any other responsibilities that may arise.

  1. Cheerleaders

·         Will go to “injury positions” and the Head Cheerleading Coach will be ready to move squad off the sideline and to a safe area if necessary.

  1. Film Crew

·         Per FHSAA and Metro Conference guidelines, if a fight or any other similar unruly incident occurs, the crew should continue filming until control is completely restored on the field.

·         If an incident has occurred during the course of the game, and the officials have allowed the contest to be completed, the film crew should continue filming until the completion of the handshake and the players have left the playing field.
