07-08 Officials Guidebook
Since the publishing of the 07-08 Officials
Guidebook and Officials Leadership Conference
held in Orlando, this communication serves to
clarify some information listed in the
Officials Guidebook incorrectly. The OG
erroneously reads:
902.02
Mileage.
Sixty
(60) cents per mile, one way, is the maximum
rate.
(1)
Regular Season.
Sixty
(60) cents per mile, per official, one way.
Schools, school districts and local
associations may negotiate different terms for
mileage, i.e. flat rates, if agreed upon by
both parties.
(2)
State Series.
Sixty
(60) cents per mile, one way, per officiating
crew. Two vehicles per playoff crew are
permitted in football for state series
contests.
The corrected language should read:
902.02
Mileage.
Sixty
(60) cents per mile, one way, is the maximum
rate.
(1)
Regular Season.
Sixty
(60) cents per mile,
per

associations may negotiate different terms for

If
you reference the language editing in the
Officials Guidebook over the past few years,
the language has been edited for clarification
with regard to fees for state series and
subsequently did not read with clarity. The
language in the 07-08 Officials Guidebook
completely changes the interpretation which
was unintended, nor passed by the FHSAA Board
of Directors. However, officials contest fees
and game fees are being reviewed for
recommendation by the Officials Advisory
Committee to the FHSAA Board of Directors.
Recruiting Awards
As
mentioned at the Officials Leadership
Conference, the FHSAA is establishing an award
for the officials association that has the
best recruiting success for the year.
Example, at the 2008 Officials Leadership
Conference, in addition to naming the
Officials Association of the Year, the FHSAA
will name an association (or two) as the
recipient of the Recruiting Award(s). Please
take a moment to suggest any of the criteria
we should consider in determining the
recipient. We do understand that some
associations cover multiple sports whereas
other associations cover only one sport. So
any criteria that you'd like to use in
differentiating the two, please forward them
to our office at
dthornton@fhsaa.org.
Registration Reimbursements
The FHSAA will discontinue the reimbursement
program for registration fees effective June
1, 2008. As in the past few years, the FHSAA
will reimburse one registration fee for first
year and/or transferring officials (07-08) who
have to undergo the background check in
compliance with Jessica Lundsford Act.
Officials who have to undergo background
checks as a requirement for their employment,
i.e. employees of the local school district,
are not eligible for reimbursements.
Associations that fail to submit the roster to
this office by the deadline as outlined in the
Officials Guidebook will not receive
reimbursements. The list of deadlines for
this information is listed on page 4. The
Fall Sports date is in November, Winter Sports
/ February; and Spring Sports /April.
Thanks for your understanding regarding this
matter.
Sincerely,
M. Denarvise
Thornton, Jr.
